The use of local provenance native trees is not just an issue for nature reserves and rural areas. Their use is as important for parks and gardens in urban and suburban areas, where the correct timing of leaf flush, flowering and fruiting can help preserve the havens of wildlife in built up areas.
Beech and copper beech, pictured are commonly used as an ornamental hedge, much to be preferred over the invasive, non-native Cypresses.
